Bamboo Cutlery = Zero Waste for Outdoor Dining

Posted by Jessica Wu

Summer is almost here, and we are out of lockdown!

Let’s celebrate outside!

It’s time to enjoy being outdoors and catch up with friends and family for a picnic on the beach or at the park.

Don’t you just love picking up the food and heading out to catch up with those we love. The last thing we want to have to worry about is losing one of our favourite (and irreplaceable) metal knives or forks. Too often we thought that plastic cutlery was the solution… if we lose one, it doesn’t matter, and we can just throw them away afterwards. Seems convenient, doesn’t it?  But it certainly is not sustainable and not eco-friendly! We need to reduce the use of single use plastics.

The alternative – the bamboo cutlery set! It’s sustainable, recyclable, reusable, and measures up to our zero waste ideology.

Is Bamboo good for cutlery?

The answer is definitely, yes! Our bamboo cutlery set is ideal for popping into a picnic hamper, tote bag, handbag, or leave in the glove box in the car, for use anywhere. Great for those camping trips too! This set makes it simple and logical to reduce the use of single-use plastics. This is the Lithe Life!

Our bamboo cutlery set is handcrafted with each piece being a master craft and slightly different from the next one. They have a smooth finish so are completely safe to use and not easily scratched or damaged.

The set includes a bamboo serrated knife, fork, spoon, chopsticks, a stainless steel straw, and a straw cleaner. Just perfect no matter where you are going and what you are eating.

The set is compact, convenient, and lightweight, so perfect for traveling with. Even better, each set comes with a free carry pouch made from 100% cotton.

Can you reuse bamboo cutlery?

It’s important to note that these are both reusable and disposable. So, yes, you can reuse your bamboo cutlery which is one of the best ways to avoid using single-use utensils.

Are bamboo utensils better than plastic?

Living the Lithe Life is all about being sustainable. The bamboo cutlery set is made from (you guessed it) sustainable bamboo, the straw is stainless steel, and the pouch is 100% cotton. We wouldn’t use anything less.

Disposable plastic cutlery is low-quality plastic, so is unable to be recycled and just contributes to the tons of plastic that end up in landfill or in our natural environment.

Can bamboo cutlery go in the dishwasher?

When you are out enjoying yourself and finished eating, you can just pop the cutlery back in its pouch and back in your bag. Having the pouch is marvelous, as you don’t have to worry about unwashed cutlery getting food on anything else.

Then once home, place in the dishwasher, and the pouch in the washing machine, it is just so easy and convenient – and so much more sustainable than using single-use plastic cutlery that goes in the rubbish bin, to end up in landfill – or worse – in the sea!

How long do bamboo utensils last?

The bamboo cutlery is sturdy and long-lasting – a great alternative to plastic. It is also non-toxic and non-porous.

Although the bamboo is washable and reusable, when it does come to the end of its life, it can be composted as is biodegradable, so absolutely zero waste.

Do bamboo utensils hold bacteria?

It’s important to note that bamboo itself has antibacterial properties. However, research has shown that the fiber in natural bamboo does not contain any type of antibacterial property.

Therefore, we need to clean it just like any other utensils in our home. Here are some of the things you can do:

  • Use white distilled vinegar to clean it and kill the molds, germs, and bacteria;
  • Wash it in your dishwasher and apply olive oil to avoid dying your cutlery; and
  • Rehydrate your utensils with other natural oil once a week.

Would you like to reduce your carbon footprint?

Handcrafted bamboo articles have a greater balance between environment, society, and economy and are hence considered sustainable.

Do you want to be part of a sustainable world with zero waste? This is the Lithe Life. It is the right thing to do, and it makes you feel good about the future of our planet.
